Does Halibut Have More Protein Than Tuna?
Safety Considerations
Fish ingest mercury when
they feed, and then you end up eating mercury that remains in the fish. For
most healthy adults, the heart-related benefits of eating fish outweigh the
risks of consuming too much mercury, according to the Harvard School of Public Health.
But infants, children and women who are pregnant should limit their mercury
intake because it interferes with normal neurological development. Halibut and
canned light tuna have a moderate amount of mercury, so pregnant women and
children can consume up to six servings a month. They should limit fresh and
canned white tuna to no more than three servings monthly, because they have a
high amount of mercury.
